In the legends of the island of Rügen, dwarves play a large role. There are black, brown, green, and white dwarves. Not all of them are well-intentioned toward humans. Particularly the black and brown dwarves must be outwitted if one wants to use their services. And meetings with them do not always end well for humans. The white dwarves live in chalk rock. They are friendly and always in good spirits. Good humans are rewarded by them, however not with wealth, but with health and good fortune. The small beings are especially fond of children. They bring them small gifts and sweet dreams. If someone with no ill intentions meets a white dwarf on a full moon night, they will have luck and be worry-free throughout the year.
